Dear Parents & Friends,
A huge thank you to the families for your support of our Movie Night. The night was a huge success with over 650 tickets sold and families coming together to enjoy cuisine from the food truck vendors, coffee, fairy floss, ice cream and our movie.
The Family College Partnership (FCP) Social Committee raised just under $4000 and this money will go towards the work of the FCP Care Committee which aims to support families in need in our local community.

Our next FCP Social Committee meeting will be Monday 18th July (1st Day of Term 1) and our Care Committee will be Thursday 21st July. Both meetings start at 6:30pm in the College Staff Common Room. The Social Committee will be evaluating the Movie Night event and planning their next event. The Care Committee will be discussing how they plan to best support families in need. We welcome new members, so come along and offer your opinion and help.
Our car park extension had asphalt laid last week and looks amazing. We hope to have it in full operation for the beginning of next term.
May God continue to bless you.
Mr Abernethy

Year 11 Studies of Religion Excursion
Studies of Religion is part of the compulsory Religious Education studies here at St Francis Catholic College for Stage 6. In doing so, students undertake two depth studies, one of which is Islam. One way to supplement the students' learning in Studies of Religion was to create an opportunity to visit a local Mosque, as well as, attend lectures by respected teachers within the Islamic community.
The day consisted of a visit to Gallipoli Mosque Auburn, where students were provided with a guided tour of this Ottoman style mosque, outlining first hand experiences about principal beliefs and devotional practices. Students were most engaged by the history of the Mosque (dating back to the 1900s), the importance of it for Islamic adherents and its architecture. After the tour, students walked to the ISRA Academy (Islamic Sciences and Research Academy of Australia) where they were able to take part in two lectures about Islamic beliefs and sacred texts. These lectures assisted in terminology and content that will be required for their HSC course.
The way in which students entered the day is to be commended. They asked thought-provoking questions that allowed a renewed understanding of the Islamic tradition in today's day and age.
Regards,
Miss Emma Randall
In 2019, our SEALS Committee teamed up with WOODiWiLD to establish the SFCC micro-forest in Aussie farmland. WOODiWiLD was created with the sole purpose of re-planting trees on farms across Australia to provide habitat for our threatened wildlife and to help address climate change.
WOODiWiLD kicked off in 2019 and needs our help to meet their goal to plant 1 million trees over the next decade. At SFCC, we are committed in supporting WOODiWiLD to build a sustainable and healthy ecosystem for the future.
So far, SFCC has planted 147 trees. We set our target of 400 planted trees in 2019 and are hoping our forest grows even closer to that total in 2022.
The SFCC micro-forest is located just outside of Wagga Wagga supporting the regeneration of trees in our local environment. All you need to do is purchase a tree for $12 and our school will receive $4 for every tree purchased in the SFCC Forest. You will be asked to name the tree and will receive a unique map reference for you to see, and follow, the growth of the tree.
We hope you will get involved and purchase a tree in the SFCC Forest! Miss Messina and Miss Cox.
What do you usually eat with?
If your answer is not, "My hands," then you belong to one of two minorities on this planet. Thirty percent of us usually eat with cutlery. Another thirty percent use chopsticks.
In Week 6, the Japanese Club tried their hardest at a Chopstick Challenge. In Japanese, chopsticks are called hashi (箸), which is a homophone with the Japanese word meaning “bridge”. They are also known as otemoto (おてもと), a phrase which is commonly printed on the wrappers of disposable chopsticks. Te means hand and moto means the area under or around something. The preceding o is used for politeness.
The students in the Japanese Club had to work in teams, using their chopsticks to move as many lollies from their plate into their cup within a time limit of 5 minutes. For some students, this was the first time they had ever used chopsticks, and they were able to watch videos to learn the correct chopstick technique used in Japanese culture. The winning team was rewarded with some Australia-themed Japanese snacks. All students were able to enjoy their lollies after the challenge as a reward for their hard work.
If you have never used chopsticks before, today might be the day!
Warm Regards,
Ms Tooby
Greetings Parents/Carers,
I can’t believe it is almost the end of term 2. As always, things are busy in CAPA both in the classroom and with the co/extra curricular program.
Media Club
This year the Media Club is in full swing with a number of important events already immortalised. Assemblies, sporting events, religious celebrations and community days have all being captured by our keen student paparazzi. A big thanks to the students who have thus far assisted us to capture these important events; Navya B, Madhav R, Sarah J, James K, Joash T and Ama A. Please keep an eye out for us at upcoming college events and remember to smile! Thanks to Mrs Bennet, Miss Cusask and Mr Fitzpatrick for getting this club up and running.
CHOIR - Middle years
The Middle Years Choir is in full swing this term and the students are loving it. Students have been engaging in and learning a range of techniques to warm up their voice and different exercises to practise their breathing. They have also been learning a modern song which will be performed in an upcoming an upcoming Middle Years Assembly.
Well done, singers for your continued commitment to choir. Thank you to Mrs Weavers for continuing role of Choir Mistress in 2022.
Drama club - year 7 & 8
Drama club continues to be on weekly, Monday during break 1 in the Drama studio. Students devised scenes recently for the first time and are about to move onto their first experience of script work.
There are approx 20 regular attendees of Drama Club.
Yours in creativity,
Ms Allen
