STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS
There have been some fantastic achievements in recent weeks from our students.
I am absolutely delighted to hear that four of our students were finalists in the National Catholic STEM Award Competition (STEM Mad). To then hear that one of them WON the national award for “Artful Ingenuity Design” is absolutely tremendous. It says much about our students and how they are extended. Congratulations Elpidius B.!
Further evidence of our student achievement was in the Year 7 and 8 Ethics Olympiad Competition. Our students competed against a number of elite schools, and both Year 7 and Year 8 teams received honourable mentions - with our Year 8 team finishing 7th in a red-hot field.
A massive thank you to all the staff involved - especially Laura Killen and Tania Kolar.
On the sporting field, one of our students, Taylah P. won gold in the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships 400 metres and silver in 100 metres and 200 metres. What a brilliant set of results.
Additionally, we have just heard that Sebastian M., in Year 4, recently competed in the ISKA World Cup 2023 Karate tournament, where he was named World Champion in traditional weapons (with rankings in 7 World Cup formats). Great news!
PARENT/CARER GROUPS IN THE FUTURE
Save the date - on Thursday night 16th November at 7.45 pm - 8.30 (face-to-face or by Zoom), there will be an opportunity for parents on existing parent committees and interested parents/carers to hear more about our future directions for Parental/Carer Groups from 2024 onwards.
I, like my predecessor, acknowledge the limitations of the traditional Parents’ & Friends’ Association. However, as has been made clear during different forums (including the Semester One Parent/Carer Forum and various surveys across 2023), there is a real desire from parents/carers to be involved in their children’s schooling and to have their voices heard.
As such, a body that can give advice regarding various College policies, processes and directions would be advantageous as our College continues to grow.
Additionally, social opportunities have been identified by parents and carers as something that they would like to see expanded within the community AND building on the excellent work of previous parental/carer committees, the space for fundraising and/or supporting community members in need exists.
More details about this event will become available in the coming week.
On Thursday 26th October, all of Kindergarten visited Calmsley Hill City Farm. Despite some cold and rainy weather, the students had a fantastic time and represented the College beautifully. Kindergarten had the opportunity to ride a tractor, milk a cow, pat baby animals in the nursery and watch the shearing of a sheep. Some lucky students even had the chance to crack a whip! Throughout the day, we were able to learn and ask questions about the needs and uses of living things which linked nicely with what we have been learning in the classroom. Kindergarten students returned to school saying "That was the best day ever!".
Congratulations to Sebastian M in Year 4 who recently competed in the ISKA World Cup 2023 karate tournament, where Sebastian won 7 World Cup titles:
- 2nd in extreme musical forms
- 2nd in traditional forms
- 2nd in team showmanship
- 3rd in team sparrin
Congratulations to the following students who received their Bronze Award recently:
