I am very pleased to announce that Friend Civil, a local civil engineering firm, have been engaged by the Diocese of Wollongong to construct the remainder of Poziers Road adjacent to our College car park. Additionally, they will develop Bezentine Ride Road (joining Vinny, McFarlane & Guillemont roads) and the second half of Vinny Road.
This will mean that all roads surrounding the College will soon be complete with adjacent pedestrian pavements. It will increase access, make road traffic smoother and increase the amount of on-street parking.
The best news is that the work commences this week! The contractors will start with Bezentine & Poziers Roads and will look to develop round-abouts on Vinny Road and Jardine Drive in the student vacation period. Finally, they will develop the remaining strip of Vinny Road to complete the project.
I have attempted to simplify the council plans for Poziers Road which show the round-abouts, pedestrian crossing and parking bays. Click here for a diagram of the road works for Poziers Road.
PARENT INFORMATION EVENING - COLLEGE BUILDING PROGRAM
We will be holding a Parent Information Evening on the College Building Program on Thursday 13th June at 6:30pm in the College Hall. On this night I will share exclusive images of the new Technology, Art & Science Centre to reveal the new learning spaces to parents. I will also provide some more detail of the road works that surround the College. Finally, I will present the proposed concepts for the next stages of the building program.
I hope that you can come along to see the presentation and ask questions. For those unable to make it, some of the images of the new building will be published on Facebook following the meeting and outline of future building proposals will be presented in the College newsletter.
FAMILY COLLEGE PARTNERSHIPS
Many thanks to the parents who have nominated to be part of the FCP program. The last day for nominations was yesterday. The College Leadership Team will examine all nominations and send out invitations soon to those who were successful to join a group. Each FCP will be chosen to represent a broad range of parents ie. consideration will be given to the year groups of children, cultural background, gender of parents etc.
I am grateful for your strong support.
Have a great week.

On Monday 20th May, the Year 7 MISA debating team (Cheryl, Sienna, Abigail, Nicholas and Honey [absent]) and the Year 8 MISA debating team (Elliana, Mirelle, Courtney, Oscar and Nereena) travelled to Oran Park Anglican College for the first debate of 2019.
Year 7 debated the topic, ‘Public transport should be free’ while Year 8 debated against the topic, ‘ANZAC day should not be a national day of celebration’.
Both teams put up a good debate, with our Year 8 team winning their first debate for 2019.
While Year 7 did not win, they argued brilliantly in their first ever debate for the College.
Our teams are having another debate (Thursday 23rd May) against Mount Carmel Catholic College.
Well done SFCC MISA Debating teams!

K-4 Literacy Evening - Feedback
Thank you to all of the parents who attended our K-4 Literacy Information Evening on Wednesday 8th May. It was a great opportunity for parents and staff to come together to discuss practical ways to develop children’s literacy skills both at school and at home.
All presentations from the evening can now be accessed via the College website under “Academic Life” and then “Junior Years Learning (K-4)”.
We really appreciate the time that was taken to provide feedback on the night and we are pleased to share some quotes from parents who attended the evening:
“It's important for me as I am learning how to help my son learn since my mother tongue is not English. I loved how Mrs Borg showed us how she teaches a lesson. The handout is very useful to share with other family members.” - Kindergarten Parent
“I found the evening provided helpful information for practising at home to build on class learning.” - Year 1 Parent
“I definitely found this evening beneficial - a number of tips which I intend to implement. Thank you. It was very helpful to cover all the topics.” - Year 2 Parent
“Great to know how to help my son at home and suggestions to aid him. Loved it and thank you to all the teachers for their time.” - Year 3 Parent
Finally, these nights cannot go ahead without the hard work and dedication of our wonderful staff. Thank you to the teachers who so generously shared their knowledge and expertise on the evening.
