- Message from the Counsellor's
It is that time of the year as a College when we are starting to look at classes for 2022. It is also the time of the year when parents start to wonder what classes their son or daughter will be in for next year.
We do not allow ‘teacher shopping’ or 'friend shopping' at St Francis. We have dedicated teachers who do their absolute best to ensure that each student in their class is catered for academically, pastorally and spiritually.
No requests for your son or daughter next year are to be taken to the classroom teachers. If you have a specific request that is essential for your son or daughter’s learning, please contact me via email on melissa.vella@dow.catholic.edu.au to discuss your concerns. This must be done by Friday 3rd December 2021.
When we are deciding on classes for next year we keep in mind:
- Friendships that are a positive for the learning of the child
- Friendships that may possibly disadvantage the learning of the child in the class or any clashes of personalities that we can avoid
- A good academic mix between the classes
- Specific needs of the child that would suit one class over the other.
On Monday 13th December we will have a 'promotions morning' for students moving into Years 1-6. This will give students an opportunity to potentially meet their class teacher from Years 1-4 and pastoral teacher in Years 5-6 and get to meet the students in their 2022 class.

Dear Parents/Carers,
A reminder that all books borrowed from the College Library should now be returned. Overdue reminders will start going out next week.
Kind regards,
SFCC Administration
Dear Parents/Carers,
Just a reminder for students in year 7 -11 that masks are to be worn whilst indoors at school. We also recommend masks be worn indoors for students K-6.
Please ensure your child brings their own mask to school.
Christmas Hamper And Gift Appeal
Dear Parents/Carers,
Each year St Francis Catholic College teams up with Catholic Care to help support families in our local community over the Christmas period. We do this by collecting hamper items and gifts for those in need.
Each class from Kindergarten to Year 11 has been allocated a family in need, with students in each class being responsible for collecting items to make up a Christmas hamper for this family. You can help by giving your child a hamper item(s) to bring in to fill their class hamper.
All items must be unopened and within the expiry date. If you are unable to donate the highlighted item(s) your child nominated we would be happy for you to choose any item from the list. Donations will be accepted until Friday 3rd December 2021.
All donations can be sent in with your child for collection in K-4 classrooms and Years 5-11 during Pastoral class.
If you would like to see how the St Francis community contributed last year, please watch Catholic Care’s Merry Christmas and Thank You Video -

HSC DISABILITY Provisions for 2022
New South Wales Education Standards Authority, NESA, has a set of principles to guide decisions about the types of arrangements it provides to students with a disability to access the Higher School Certificate examinations. The principles were developed to ensure that NESA complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education, issued under the DDA.
Disability provisions aim to ensure that a student with a disability can read the exam questions and communicate their responses to the markers. Provisions can include rest breaks, extra time or separate supervision. The use of any provision is not written on the student’s results. The provisions granted are solely determined by how the student’s exam performance is affected. Students may need provisions for:
- a permanent condition, such as diabetes or reading difficulty.
- a temporary condition, such as a broken arm, or
- an intermittent condition, such as back pain when sitting for long periods.
Provisions may also be given for mental health or concentration difficulties, as well as health conditions. Students in Year 12 who are accessing provisions have already received a letter regarding an application for High School Certificate Disability Provisions.
Applications for Disability Provisions must be made to NESA which determines what, if any, provisions are granted. There is a standard procedure that must be followed when the school is submitting an application. There is no guarantee that applications will be successful.
The College is required to demonstrate how provisions enable the students to access the exam on the same basis as their peers. It is important for students to be using provisions in school-based tasks so that evidence can be provided by the school. If you wish the College to prepare an application for Higher School Certificate Disability Provisions for 2022, please contact Ms Alyssa McGinnes via phone or email – mcginnesa01@dow.catholic.edu.au
