MISA Public Speaking

In Term 3, Senior Years students are offered the opportunity to participate in public speaking competitions with the Macarthur Independent Schools Association.  These competitions develop students' skills in writing, argumentation, and imagination as well as how to effectively engage and address an audience as important extension activities.
This year we had three students represent St Francis at these competitions: Giselle A & Tejas A in Year 9, as well as Abigail A in Year 10.
Congratulations to all students, who worked hard to compose and present their own speech on a topic of their own choosing - researching and writing the content of their speech as well as rehearsing the most effective methods of delivery.  Year 9 students also had to complete a 5-minute interview with the adjudicators where they were asked about local, national and international matters that are of concern to teenagers today, and in Year 10 Abigail had to complete a 2-minute unprepared impromptu speech on the issue of whether or not the legal driving age should be raised.
All our students presented themselves with professionalism and pride and spoke excellently in what was a very competitive field of talented speakers. Whilst they did not place, they received excellent feedback from both the adjudicators and fellow competitors. They are all to be commended for their efforts!
This competition as well as others run next year, and all interested in participating in Public Speaking opportunities are invited to join the SFCC Public Speaking Google Classroom to keep up to date with all the news as Middle & Senior Years competitions start back in 2023...
In the meantime, we next look forward to hearing our enthusiastic finalists in Stage 3 Public Speaking present their speeches in Week 9!
