Message from Mr Abernethy

Dear Parents & Friends,

Our first Year 12 group is relatively small with 35 students planning to graduate at the end of the academic year. Despite its size, these pioneers are already demonstrating their success. Today I would like to highlight the achievements of two of our students; Sarah A and Nathan V.

Sarah joined us as a foundation student in Year 7 and way back then she had a dream of being a veterinarian when she completed school. Sarah has set a great example by consistently applying herself to her studies, demonstrating leadership skills and being actively involved in the life of the College.

Sarah recently attended a careers talk at St Francis, organised by our Careers Advisor, Mrs Lyons. At that talk representatives from Charles Sturt University spoke. Sarah completed an application for Early Entry and received the news that she has been accepted in a Bachelor of Veterinary Technologies at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga. This guarantees that Sarah will be able to continue her dream of becoming a vet.

We congratulate Sarah on her achievements.

Nathan also joined us as a foundation student in Year 7. Nathan enjoyed Mandatory Technology in Year7 & 8 and studied Industrial Technology Timber in Years 9-12. Nathan is quite talented with tools and machinery and works consistently and safely in the workshops of St Francis. Nathan’s love of ‘hands on’ work saw him wanting to pursue a trade career.

Nathan has been highly involved in the life of the College regularly participating in co-curricular activities and taking on leadership opportunities.

We would like to congratulate Nathan as the successful applicant into the Productivity Boot Camp program in Term 4 after his HSC. This program gives applicants experience in five trades and has a 99% employment rate at the end. It is one of the regions most difficult programs to be accepted into. Nathan has spent ten weeks going through the application and interview process. Organisers were so impressed with Nathan, not only did they sign him up straight away, they also placed him on the fast track program which is an accelerated 5 week program, rather than 8 weeks. Awesome work Nathan.

Both Nathan and Sarah have embraced the learning offered at St Francis and we are very excited that they will graduate following their dreams. We look forward to sharing more good news stories as Year 12 students receive word of post-school options. I sincerely thank Mrs Helen Lyons for her dedication and hard work in educating students about career and tertiary study opportunities.

Yours Sincerely,
Mr Simon Abernethy
College Principal
