Message from Mr Abernethy
Dear Parents & Friends,
You are my heroes! Thank you for your support & the fantastic assistance you are providing your children with remote learning during this lockdown period. I know you didn’t sign up for this and I appreciate that it is very challenging.
Our staff have had many emails and conversations and we understand that every family is having their own unique experience. Some families are thriving, especially Middle & Senior Years students, enjoying independent learning. Some families are struggling with their own grasp of English, with children who need support with their learning, balancing the pressures of being a parent, at home worker and assisting children with remote learning. Some are relying on the support of extended family. Some are working with their children when they return from work. Most (including our staff) wish they could do more. All of us are giving our best, working together for the sake of our kids and for that I am truly grateful.
We are unclear of when this lockdown period will end- but it will. In the meantime, our staff will work diligently with you to provide the best learning experiences we can. Please be satisfied with doing what you can.
This week, schools received important information from the eSafety Commissioner to pass onto parents and carers in relation to how to keep young people safe online during the Covid19 pandemic. As young people are more increasingly involved in online use via mobile devices, laptops, PC and gaming devices, it’s essential that children and adults learn to use these modern devices wisely and safely.
https://www.esafety.gov.au/ is a Government site link to very useful information with specific relevance to educators, parents, children, young people and more. There are links to training and scheduled webinars and other resources in various languages. Please check the website.
It goes without saying that we are encouraging everyone in our school community to get vaccinated for COVID-19 as quickly as you are able to. I received my second jab today. I know that our staff have been very proactive in getting vaccinated, in the hope that this will support the return to ‘life as normal’ as soon as possible.
May God keep you all safe and well.
Thanks a million for your fantastic support.
