Casey B and Vidasha P won one of three awards at the Innovate for Impact Competition in the Year 7–12 Category. They presented their pitch to a panel of industry expert judges in an exhibition style format, competing in a very strong field with Their Project - AquaAlert
What is AquaAlert?
To address the issue of shark attacks in Australia, we developed AquaAlert, a watch that uses SONAR technology to detect sharks and alert the wearer to nearby dangers. Unlike existing apps that only detect tagged sharks and provide limited distance estimates, AquaAlert can identify sharks regardless of their tagging status by sending out sound waves and analysing the echoes returned from a shark's skin. When sharks are detected, the watch sends signals to nearby lifeguard towers, alerting them of the threat.
