From the Assistant Principal - Pastoral Care

Student Leadership at St Francis

In past weeks there has been a strong focus on student leadership at St Francis. Our aim is to build leadership skills across the continuum from K - 12. There are many ways to demonstrate leadership both in and outside of the classroom, playground and beyond the College gates. Students are involved in buddy programs, environmental awareness and social justice initiatives to name a few.
However, opportunities for official positions of leadership are also important and in Years 3, 7, 10 and 11 our focus in pastoral care is leadership formation. Students who are choosing to apply for leadership are expected to meet the following essential criteria:

A student applying for a School Leadership position at St Francis Catholic College must:
  • Be supportive of the Edmund Rice Charism
  • Be a good role model for all students
  • Be applying themselves to their academic studies
  • Have a good attendance record
  • Demonstrates pride in their uniform
  • Have attended and actively supported all Community Events e.g. Carnivals, Liturgies
  • Have participated in extracurricular activities
  • Have demonstrated positive behaviour
  • Be committed to represent the College at official functions within the College and within the broader community e.g. Open Day, College and Diocesan Carnivals, Cross Country etc.
  • Be committed to attending fortnightly leadership meetings during break time
  • Have demonstrated positive leadership through their words and actions
  • Have demonstrated a genuine desire to help others through service activities

We know that in considering leadership and applying, each student will draw on the support of family members to assist in reflecting on this criteria. I am grateful to parents for the support of students engaging in this process. All positions involve a submitted application and a shortlisting process. The leaders will be announced at the end of the term with an investiture at a whole College assembly early next term (details to come).
