Diocesan Year 7-9 Boys Cricket Gala Day Report

IMG_8157.jpg
On Wednesday the 16th of October students from across the Diocese of Wollongong gathered to compete in the Diocesan Year 7-9 Boys Cricket Gala Day. With an impressive showing at the trials last term, the team had every chance to perform well throughout the day.
The first match saw SFCC bowl well, pick up a few wickets and restrict St John's (Nowra) to a score of 44 off their seven overs. SFCC managed to chase down the required total within five overs. Special mention to Asher who top scored with 28.
The second match of the day was against Holy Spirit (Bellambi). The SFCC side bowled extremely well, with good line and length and restricted Holy Spirit to just 24 runs from their seven overs. The SFCC side managed to chase down the 24 runs comfortably within four overs.
The final pool round match coincidentally saw the undefeated SFCC side and the undefeated St Joseph's (Albion Park) side play off for first position in the pool. SFCC won the toss and elected to bat first. The SFCC team had a strong performance with the bat, beautifully timed cricket shots and good partnerships with Yuvraj. K and Rohit. N top score with 28 and 18 respectively. This assisted with the team posting a competitive total of 64 runs. As was customary throughout the day, there was tight bowling and consistent line and length, which put SFCC in a good position half way through the match. Unfortunately, St Joseph managed to get across the line on the second last ball of the match to take the win.
The SFCC team went down in the final match (play off for third place) to Edmund Rice College (Wollongong) by ten runs. This placed our school 4th out of the nine participating schools within the Diocese.
