VET Construction
Students studying VET Construction at St Francis Catholic College recently had the unique opportunity to visit an active construction site, providing them with valuable hands-on learning experiences. The site visit began with a thorough induction, ensuring all students were familiar with the necessary safety protocols.
After the induction, the site manager provided an insightful overview of his daily responsibilities and the ongoing work on the new admin and junior years block. His talk offered students a glimpse into the complexities of managing a large construction project and the various tasks involved in keeping the project on track.
Guided by FAL's Work Health and Safety (WHS) officer, the students then embarked on a comprehensive tour of the new buildings. This tour allowed them to observe firsthand the different stages of construction and the diverse roles played by workers on site.
Throughout the visit, students were encouraged to apply their knowledge of WHS practices. They diligently took notes on any potential safety issues they observed, which sparked a thoughtful group discussion afterward. This exercise not only reinforced their theoretical knowledge but also highlighted the importance of maintaining high safety standards in real-world scenarios.
The site visit was an invaluable experience for the VET Construction students, bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry practices. It showcased St Francis’s commitment to providing practical, career-focused education that prepares students for their future careers in construction.
A special thank you to FAL Construction, Principal Mr. McMahon, Business Manager Mr. Balzarano, and VET Coordinator Miss Meadley for making this enriching experience possible. Their support and dedication to student learning are greatly appreciated.
