Year 12 PDHPE Sports Medicine Workshop
The Year 12 Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education (PDHPE) class was privileged to experience a workshop run by the Owner/Practice Principal of Elite Edge Physiotherapy (Gregory Hills and Liverpool), Michael Messina. Elite Edge Physiotherapy works with the general population and athletes and sporting teams at a grassroots, amateur, semi-professional, and professional level. Michael has previously worked with professional sporting organisations, such as the Cronulla Sharks, West Tigers, NSW Waratahs, and Australian Rugby Seven's Olympic Program.
The students were immersed in the experience and knowledge of Michael about the study and career path involved in being a physiotherapist and practice owner and were able to ask questions and partake in a workshop focused on the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of injuries. The workshop also included practical demonstrations of taping and bandaging that form part of physical preparation and return-to-play strategies employed by athletes.
